TOLU — Transregional Opportunities for Learning and Understanding — is an independent research platform focused on Northeast Asia and Central Asia. This page explains what we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and how you can write to us about it.
It applies to visitors of this website, people who send a contact or contribution form, and anyone who writes to the research desk. It does not cover third-party sites we may link to.
TOLU does not sell personal information. We do not use this site as a marketing list.
Information you type into a form: name, email, organisation, country, research field, inquiry type and the message itself.
Technical data the browser sends in the ordinary course of a visit: language preference, pages requested, and a record of whether you have answered the cookie notice in this session.
We do not ask for identity documents, payment details or special-category data. Do not send those in a form.
To reply to a research inquiry, a commission or a contribution proposal.
To keep the site working in the language you chose, and to understand which public pages are read.
We do not use your message to build a profile for advertising, and we do not pass it to a political campaign.
Necessary cookies keep basic functions working, such as language. They are used only for the operation of the site.
If you accept all cookies, we may also use a simple analytics cookie to see which pages are opened. You can choose “necessary only” in the notice that appears when you enter the site.
The notice is shown again when you next enter or refresh the site. Choosing an option does not create a lasting advertising identifier.
Messages go to the research desk at the address below. We may share a message with a colleague inside TOLU if that is needed to answer it. We do not sell lists and we do not hand messages to brokers.
Form submissions are kept only as long as needed to reply and, where relevant, to keep a record of a commission or contribution. Technical logs are kept for a short period for security and operation of the site.
You may write to ask what we hold about a message you sent, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it where we no longer need it to reply or to keep a research record.
You may refuse analytics cookies by choosing “necessary only”. Some functions of the site still work if you do that.
Write to the research desk. Say that the note concerns privacy, and include the email you used on the form if you have already written to us.
