Alliance Politics and Force Posture in Northeast Asia

U.S. force posture, Japanese and Korean defence reviews, and changing threat perceptions are recasting how alliances coordinate in Northeast Asia. The project tracks missile defence, basing and joint planning, and asks what these shifts mean for crisis stability, extended deterrence and the room smaller partners still have to set their own security priorities.

Mongolia’s Third-Neighbor Diplomacy

Ulaanbaatar still frames its foreign policy around “third neighbors” beyond China and Russia—the United States, Japan, Korea and Europe—while trade, energy and transit remain tightly bound to the two giants. The project asks how far this diplomacy can offset economic dependence, and where security exposure reappears in mining, railways and airspace.
